Ein Hauptziel dieses Forschungsbereichs war (und ist)
die wissenschaftliche Vorbereitung einer Ausstellung
über das Thema (engl. Titel: “A Perfect Medium –
Photography and the Occult”). Sie wird in Zusammenarbeit
mit der Maison Européenne de la Photographie
in Paris und dem Metropolitan Museum of
Art für Ende 2004 realisiert und wird neben den
erwähnten Orten auch im Museum of Modern Art
in San Francisco und dem Museum of Fine Arts in
Montreal gezeigt werden. Damit wird vermutlich
zum ersten Mal überhaupt in international renommierten
Museen eine ausschließlich Quellenmaterial
aus der Geschichte der Parapsychologie gewidmete
Ausstellung präsentiert. Die ausgesprochen große Bereitschaft
zur Kooperation und Mithilfe bei Institutionen
wie auch bei Privatpersonen, hat außerdem
dazu geführt, dass sich die Kenntnis über historische
Bestände von Bildmaterialien und anderen Objekten
(d. h. archivarisches und sonstiges Sammlungsmaterial)
aus diesem Bereich entscheidend verbessert hat.
Damit wurde bereits eines seiner Ziele erreicht, das
vor allem auch für zukünftige Forschungsvorhaben von
Bedeutung sein könnte. Es lässt sich in diesem Zusammenhang
auch feststellen, dass solche Projekte mit
dazu beitragen können, die Bereitschaft zur Sicherung
seltener historischer Materialien zu erhöhen.
Im Zusammenhang mit diesem Forschungsprojekt und
den bisher realisierten Ausstellungen konnte eine einzigartige
Informationssammlung über Bildmaterialien
aus der Geschichte der Parapsychologie zusammengetragen
werden. Sie beinhaltet auch ein Standortverzeichnis
von archivarischem Material und sonstigen
relevanten Sammlungsbeständen sowie bibliographische
Angaben. Die Bedeutung dieses Komplexes
lässt sich inzwischen an einer Vielzahl externer Anfragen
ablesen, entweder im Zusammenhang mit wissenschaftlichen
Projekten und Film- sowie Publikationsvorhaben

A main goal of the project was (and still is) to
prepare a major exhibition about the subject under
the title ‘A Perfect Medium—Photography and the
Occult’. It will be realized in cooperation with the
Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris and
the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for
2004/2005 and will also be shown later in the Museum
of Modern Art in San Francisco and the Museum
of Fine Arts in Montreal. It is, as it seems, for the
first time that primary sources dealing with history
of the occult and the paranormal will be presented
in international renowned museums. A lot of institutions
and private collectors generously supported
the preparations of the project. As a consequence,
the knowledge regarding historical photographs and
other items, like archival material, was considerably
improved. By this way, one of the goals could be
reached which might be of some importance for
future research projects dealing with the history of
parapsychology. In this context one can confidently
say that with the help of such projects the readiness
to secure and restore rare historical materials could
be increased.
In connection with this project and previous exhibitions
it was possible to create an unique collection
of information material on the subject. It includes
a database on archives and collections, containing
not only photographs but also other archival
material, and also bibliographic references. Its importance
can be shown by a lot of external inquiries, either
in connection with scientific projects or with film
and publication projects and also other exhibitions
