2.5 Beratung und Information
Seit seiner Gründung 1950 durch Prof. Hans Bender
bietet das Institut der Öffentlichkeit einen Informations-
und Beratungsservice zum gesamten Spektrum
der Parapsychologie, Grenzwissenschaften und
anomalistischer Phänomene. Darunter fallen Auskünfte
über die Verbreitung und Phänomenologie
parapsychischer Erfahrungen sowie ein Expertenwissen
zum Stand der interdisziplinären Forschung auf
den Grenzgebieten. Ein besonderes Beratungs- und
Therapieangebot des Instituts steht für solche Menschen
zur Verfügung, die angesichts beunruhigender
oder belastender “okkulter” und paranormaler Erfahrungen
Bewältigungs- und Verarbeitungshilfen suchen
(“Psychohygiene”). Von besonderer Bedeutung für die
Beratung ist die Vernetzung mit Strukturen der psychosozialen
Versorgung “vor Ort”, da Beratungs- und
Informationsanfragen aus dem gesamten Gebiet der
Bundesrepublik an das Institut gelangen. Dazu gehört
auch die Präsentation der besonderen Beratungsthematik
des Instituts im klinisch-psychologischen und
psychotherapeutischen Kontext. Das Beratungsteam
des Instituts besteht aus ausgebildeten Psychologen
mit klinisch-therapeutischem Hintergrund, das sich
regelmäßig zu einer Fallrundenbesprechung trifft.
2.5.1 Versorgungs- und Beratungsarbeit
Weiterentwicklung des Dokumentationssystems
In Abstimmung mit den aktuell gültigen Standards
für Basisdokumentationen, wie sie an Praxiseinrichtungen
psychologischer Institute und in der Fachpsychotherapie
üblich sind, wurde am IGPP erstmals
1998 ein Dokumentationssystem (DOKU) zur
Erfassung soziodemographischer, anamnestischer und
phänomenspezifischer Daten eingeführt. Damit konnte
das Beratungsaufkommen fortlaufend systematisch
dokumentiert und ausgewertet werden. Im Zuge der
Erfahrungen bei der Datenerhebung und -verarbeitung
wurde das DOKU mehrfach modifiziert und optimiert.
Die abschließenden Ergebnisse des in den
Jahren 1996 bis 2001 gemeinsam mit der Ambulanz
des Psychologischen Instituts der Universität Freiburg
durchgeführten Forschungsprojektes “Beratung und
Hilfe für Menschen mit Außergewöhnlichen Erfahrungen”
(Belz-Merk, 2002), in dem das DOKU seinerzeit
auch entwickelt wurde, führten noch einmal
zu einer grundlegenden Revision des DOKU. Im Mai
2002 wurde das bisherige Instrument durch ein völlig
überarbeitetes Dokumentationssystem mit wesentlich
differenzierteren Kategorien und Skalen zur Erfassung
der außergewöhnlichen Erfahrungen (AgE), der psychosozialen
Belastungen und insbesondere auch der
klinischen Urteilsbildung ersetzt.
Beratungsaufkommen
In den Jahren 2002 und 2003 nahmen insgesamt
rund 650 Personen aus dem ganzen Bundesgebiet das

Since its foundation in the year 1950 by Prof. Hans
Bender, the IGPP has provided the public with
an information and counseling service covering the
whole spectrum of parapsychology, fringe sciences and
anomalistic phenomena. The Institute is offering information
and material about the frequency and phenomenology
of psychic experiences together with expert
knowledge regarding the “state of the art” of interdisciplinary
research into border areas of psychology.
The special counseling programme of the IGPP
is designed to meet the individual needs of people who
have to cope with occult or paranormal experiences
causing them and others emotional distress (“mental
hygiene”). Of special importance for the IGPP counseling
are contacts with “local” structures of mental
health because inquiries for information and help are
reaching the Institute from allover Germany. Therefore
the presentation of the specific topics of counseling
within a clinical psychological and psychotherapeutical
context is of great importance. The counseling
team of the IGPP consists of trained psychologists with
a clinical-therapeutical background; the counselours
meet each other on a regular basis to discuss incoming
cases.
2.5.1 Counseling and Care Activities
Further Development of the Documentation System
In accordance with current regulations and standards
for basic documentation in psychotherapy, a special
documentation system (DOKU) was developed and
introduced in 1998 at IGPP to record systematically
sociodemographic, anamnestic and phenomenonspecific
data. Using this DOKU system, it was
possible for the first time to record continuously and
systematically, as well as evaluate statistically, the
number of counseling cases. According to an on-going
process of data collection and evaluation, the DOKU
system was modified and optimized several times.
The final results of a research project “Counseling and
Help for People Claiming Extraordinary Experiences”,
directed by Dr. Martina Belz-Merk between 1996 and
2001, during which the DOKU system was developed,
led to a fundamental revision of the system itself. In
May 2002, a new DOKU system was introduced, replacing
the old one, which contains much more refined
categories and scales regarding the phenomenology of
extraordinary experiences (EE), psychosocial stress
factors and criteria for clinical judgment.
