Exploring the adoption and use of social networking websites in SMEs

This thesis explores a rarely addressed topic in IT adoption literature, namely
the adoption and use of public social networking websites (SNS) in small and
medium sized enterprises (SME). Eight different SMEs located in Vienna which
are using Facebook as their main SNS were studied. Apart from semistructured
interviews, the content of the organizational posts are analysed to
understand why and how these organizations are using SNS. The analysis of
the interviews showed that six factors influence the adoption of SNS in
studied SMEs which are; the attitude of manager’s real-life social network
toward SNS, relative perceived ease of use and maintenance simplicity,
understanding customer’s needs, willingness to define and share
organizational identity, perceived social approval of SNS among target
customers and dynamic nature of the business and regular changes. Posts
which inform the customers about new products, services or events are the
most popular message type among the studied cases. Based on the findings,
this study debates the capability of rational adoption models for explaining
this phenomenon and recommends the adoption models and theories with
social constructs as models which can be adapted to answer why SMEs are
using SNS.

Moni ist ein medizinisches Expertensystem, das zum frühzeitigen Erkennen
von nosokomialen Infektionen am AKH Wien auf der Intensivstation
eingesetzt wird. Entwickelt wurde Moni von der Medizinischen Universität
Wien und Medexter Healthcare GmbH. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit
den Fragen ob sich Moni in den Routinebetrieb eines Krankenhauses
übernehmen lässt und damit eine Unterstützung der Ärzte erwirken kann. Wie
gut können Ärzte mit dem System arbeiten, genügen die Usability
Anforderungen den heutigen Standards? Wie umgeht Moni die bekannten
Probleme der Diagnosesysteme, Wissen formal darzustellen. Der erste Teil
der Arbeit umfasst eine Literaturrecherche über den aktuellen
Forschungsstand zum Themenbereich Expertensysteme in der Medizin. Es
folgt die Erarbeitung der Grundstruktur für den Kriterienkatalog anhand der
Literatur von Ben Shneiderman und Jakob Nielsen. Durch die Analyse der
