Definitionen: (analog Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS))
• Seroconversion / primary infection *: Detection of
antibodies (IgM / IgG) or virus replication (PCR, culture,
antigen, in situ hybridization) if the donor was seronegative.
Can be asymptomatic or symptomatic.
• Asymptomatic viral replication: Defined by detection of
virus by culture, antigen, in situ hybridization or by
PCR in a sample (e.g. plasma / serum or whole blood, urine,
cerebro­spinal fluid or bronchoalveolar lavage) without
clinical, ­laboratory or histological manifestations.
• Viral syndrome: Detection of virus replication and nonorgan-specific
clinical symptoms (fever > 38 °C).
• Probable viral disease: Detection of virus replication and
­symptoms / signs of concurrent organ dysfunction. Other
­pathogens are excluded.
• Proven viral disease: Detection of virus replication with
corresponding pathology in biopsy tissues.
Note:
* Latent infectious disease is reported by serology in baseline
data. First episode in a seronegative recipient is defined as primary
infection. Indicate site of infection in symptomatic patients.
