prices in the last few years have shown an increasing trend. Due to the high awareness about its<br />

advantages and higher exports, the FIBC production in India is expected to grow at over 20% y-o-y.<br />

Many <strong>of</strong> the existing regular HDPE/PP bag manufacturers are now moving to Jumbo bags. Currently,<br />

FIBC produced in India is primarily exported. The key exports markets are USA and Europe, which<br />

comprise approximately 2/3rd <strong>of</strong> the global demand. There is a small market in Australia as well. The<br />

requirement <strong>of</strong> FIBC in India is primarily in West Bengal by Mitsubishi PTA and South Asian<br />

Petrochemicals with a combined requirement <strong>of</strong> 675,000 pieces per year. With Mitsubishi gearing up<br />

for a new PTA plant in Haldia by end <strong>of</strong> 2008, the requirement is likely to go up to 1 million pieces <strong>of</strong><br />

FIBC per year. The other consumers <strong>of</strong> FIBC in India are large chemical companies like Birla<br />

Cellulosic, Lion Chemicals, Gujarat Heavy Chemicals, etc. their combined annual requirement will be<br />

<strong>of</strong> the order <strong>of</strong> 100,000 pieces per year. The domestic demand for FIBC in India is likely to grow at 7-<br />

8% p.a. in line with industrial growth rate.<br />

The imports <strong>of</strong> FIBC are very few. Around 90% <strong>of</strong> the imports are from Germany and the rest from<br />
