Director General <strong>of</strong> Ordinance Supplies (DGOS) which in turn are given based on the requirements <strong>of</strong><br />

Master General <strong>of</strong> Ordnance (MGO). OFB receives orders for these products from the MGO on an<br />

annual requirement basis. OFB manufactures NBC suits, high altitude clothing (also known as<br />

Extreme cold climate clothing or ECC clothing), fire-retardent clothing and tents. High altitude<br />

clothing includes jackets, trousers, caps and gaiters. At present, only two types <strong>of</strong> tents are made -<br />

Tent extendable and Arctic tents. By 2010, OFB also has plans to manufacture Bullet pro<strong>of</strong> jackets to<br />

meet the growing domestic demand. In addition, OFB also manufactures parachutes (supply dropping<br />

parachutes, aircraft brake parachutes, parachutes for paratroopers and aircraft pilot ejection<br />

parachutes), sleeping bags and mattresses which are not classified under protech applications.<br />

OFB is the only indigenous manufacturer for the NBC suits and high altitude clothing in India. The<br />

total fabric <strong>consumption</strong> <strong>of</strong> OFB is estimated as around 25,000 metres. OFB has a turnover <strong>of</strong> Rs 700<br />

crore. Non woven and rubberized fabrics <strong>consumption</strong> is less than 2% <strong>of</strong> total fabric <strong>consumption</strong>.<br />

Non woven fabric requirement is only for NBC suits.<br />

The <strong>technical</strong> textile products covered under Protech are as given below:-<br />

1. Ballistic protective clothing – Bullet-pro<strong>of</strong> jackets<br />

2. Fire retardant apparels<br />

3. Fire retardant fabrics (for furnishings)<br />

4. Radiation protection textile/NBC suits<br />

5. High visibility clothing/Foul weather clothing<br />

6. Chemical protection clothing<br />

7. Industrial gloves/Cut. Slash protection<br />

8. High altitude clothing<br />

The products in the Protech category are typically 100% <strong>technical</strong> textile products with the exception<br />

<strong>of</strong> industrial gloves (where <strong>technical</strong> textile is fully or partly used in the end product). The <strong>technical</strong><br />

textile <strong>consumption</strong> under Protech is estimated as around Rs 1,259 crore. The key Protech products<br />

are high altitude clothing, bullet-pro<strong>of</strong> jackets and fire retardant fabrics which account for 52%, 20%<br />

and 14% <strong>of</strong> the <strong>technical</strong> textile <strong>consumption</strong> respectively in Protech segment. The fire retardant
