The artificial tendons are primarily imported. Over 50% <strong>of</strong> the imports are from USA followed by<br />

UK, Germany, France, Singapore, Denmark and Hong Kong.<br />

Raw-materials and machinery<br />

Meshes for hernia and other medical requirements are manufactured using warp-knitting process on<br />

Double Raschel Warp knitting machines. Most textile grafts for large and medium artery replacement<br />

are made <strong>of</strong> either PET (polyethylene terephthalate, commercial name Dacron) or PTFE<br />

(polytetrafluoro ethylene, commercial name Teflon). These grafts can also be woven, though, rarely.
