Product characteristics<br />

Either plain or twill weave cloth made wholly <strong>of</strong> jute, inter-woven and weighing not less than 407<br />

g/m 2 .<br />

Twill<br />

The weave that produces diagonal patterns on the surface <strong>of</strong> the cloth. In the Jute<br />

industry, generally 2 x 1 simple twill weave is used.<br />

A-Twill Cloth A double warp, 2/1-twill weave sacking jute cloth weighing 750 g/m 2<br />

B- Twill Cloth A double warp 2/1-twill weave sacking jute cloth weighing 643 g/m 2<br />

L- Twill Cloth A double warp twill weave sacking cloth weighing approx. 716 g/m 2<br />

Oslo Twill Cloth A twill sacking cloth for making bags <strong>of</strong> about 108 cm width weighing about 534 g/m 2<br />

Brattice Cloth Hessian fabrics, which after rot and firepro<strong>of</strong>ing is used in mines as windscreens and for<br />

ventilation purposes.<br />

Heavy Cee A double warp plain weave sacking jute cloth having 68 ends/dm and 35 picks/dm and<br />

weighing 673 g/m 2<br />

The difference between hessian and sacking is in the quality <strong>of</strong> the cloth and the jute used for its<br />

production, the difference being primarily one <strong>of</strong> fineness, the former being made <strong>of</strong> finer grade jute,<br />

the latter <strong>of</strong> coarser qualities. Hessian can be available in cloth lengths while the mills usually convert<br />

sacking cloth into bags and sacks.<br />

Food Grade Jute Bags<br />

Food grade jute bags are jute sacks which comply with the IJO Standard 98/01. The Government <strong>of</strong><br />

India has maintained the compulsory packing <strong>of</strong> food grains and sugar at 100% under Jute Packaging<br />

Materials (Compulsory use for Packing Commodities) Act, 1987 (JPMA).<br />
