BUILDTECH<br />

The Buildtech segment comprises <strong>of</strong> <strong>textiles</strong> or composite materials used in the construction <strong>of</strong><br />

permanent and temporary buildings as well as structures. The products covered under Buildtech are<br />

given below:-<br />

• Architectural membranes<br />

• Hoardings & signages<br />

• Cotton canvas Tarpaulins<br />

• HDPE Tarpaulins<br />

• Awnings & canopies<br />

• Scaffolding nets<br />

• Floor & wall coverings<br />

The market size <strong>of</strong> the Buildtech segment has been estimated at Rs 1,726 crore. HDPE and Cotton<br />

canvas tarpaulins account for 65% <strong>of</strong> the Buildtech market size. The HDPE tarpaulins are valued at<br />

Rs 650 crore and account for around 40% <strong>of</strong> the segment share. HDPE Tarpaulins are likely to<br />

achieve growth rate in excess <strong>of</strong> 15% to reach Rs 1,330 crore by 2012-13.<br />

The cotton canvas tarpaulin is the second largest product in this segment valued at Rs 457 crore with a<br />

share <strong>of</strong> around 25%. However, the demand <strong>of</strong> cotton canvas tarpaulins is expected to decline because<br />

<strong>of</strong> substitution by HDPE tarpaulins.<br />

The Floor & wall coverings are rapidly growing <strong>technical</strong> <strong>textiles</strong> products accounting for around<br />

25% <strong>of</strong> the segment value. They are estimated to grow at around 10% year on year from Rs 425 crore<br />

to Rs 685 crore.<br />

The flex market (hoardings & signages) is estimated to grow from around 95 million square meters<br />

valued at Rs. 175 crore in 2007-08 to around 140 million square meters by 2012 –13 (growing at the<br />

rate <strong>of</strong> around 8% year on year) valued at Rs 258 crore.<br />

Architectural membranes are expected to grow at a CAGR <strong>of</strong> 20% to reach a size <strong>of</strong> Rs 40 crore by<br />

2012-13 from Rs 16 crore in 2007-08. Scaffolding nets and awnings and canopies account for the<br />

remaining Buildtech market with sizes <strong>of</strong> Rs 0.58 crore and Rs 2.25 crore respectively.<br />

The Buildtech segment is estimated to grow at a CAGR <strong>of</strong> around 9% to Rs 2,655 crore by 2012-13.
