Clark Lever’s Kotex, Gufic Biosciences brand Shapers and other domestic brands. The other smaller<br />

players in the market are Prime Hygiene Care Pvt. Ltd., Actifit India Pvt. Ltd., Dima Poducts, Donisi<br />

International, Hindustan Latex and Kaul Impex Pvt. Ltd. The non-woven <strong>technical</strong> textile raw<br />

material is primarily imported as there are few non-woven producers in India.<br />

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) sold 1,666 million pieces <strong>of</strong> sanitary napkins in 2005-06. Dima Products<br />

sold 1.54 million pieces in 2005-06.<br />

Consumption norms and the market size<br />

The non-woven fabric is 18-20 GSM and accounts for around 11-12% by weight <strong>of</strong> the sanitary<br />

napkin i.e. around 0.95 grams per napkin.<br />

Average weight <strong>of</strong> sanitary napkin is 8-10 grams; the total tonnage <strong>of</strong> sanitary napkin market in India<br />

is 20,000 MT (assuming average weight <strong>of</strong> sanitary napkin to be 9 grams).<br />

At present, the sanitary napkin market in India is growing at the rate <strong>of</strong> 10%-15% year on year.<br />

The potential market for non-woven fabric in the sanitary napkin industry in 2012-13 is estimated at<br />

Rs. 44 crore up from Rs. 25 crore in 2007-08 (E). No inflationary increase has been assumed for the<br />

price <strong>of</strong> non-woven fabric. In volume terms, the usage <strong>of</strong> non-woven fabric in the sanitary napkin<br />

industry is expected to grow from 2,250 MT in 2007-08 to 4,000 MT in 2012-13.
