It should be pointed out that the addition of a draft tube is neither feasible nor desirable in the case of an impulse turbine such as the Pelton wheel, since as already mentioned the exit kinetic energy is very low and Pelton wheel runners are not confined as reaction turbines. A schematic diagram of the draft tube is shown in Fig. 12. An approximate analysis of the draft tube can be performed by considering only the meridional velocity components.
