19. Install the RAID controller, as shown in Figure 55.
Figure 55. Installing a new RAID controller
a. Slide the RAID controller all the way into the empty slot.
b. Close both levers until the latch locks into place.
20. Install the SFPs and then connect the fibre-channel cables to their original
locations.
21. Turn on power to the storage server and attached devices. For the proper
power-on sequence, see “Turning on the storage server” on page 35.
22. Wait approximately one minute and then use the storage-management
software to place the controller in online state (it was placed offline in step 6
on page 65). If the operation fails, repeat the command. If the operation fails
again, reseat the controller and repeat this step.
Note: It might take 15 minutes to a few hours for a new battery to become
fully charged. The storage-management software will show the battery
as failed until it is fully charged. Controller caching is automatically
disabled until the new battery becomes fully charged.
23. Use the storage-management software to monitor the status of the storage
server and to reset the battery age.
Note: There are two cache batteries in the unit (one for each controller). Make
sure that you reset the age for the correct battery.
Installing SFPs and fiber-optic cables
Each RAID controller unit has two host ports and one expansion unit port. SFPs are
inserted into the ports, and then fibre-channel cables are connected to the SFPs.
For information on installing SFPs and fiber-optic cables, see “Working with SFPs
and fiber-optic cables” on page 25.
