Barresi’s study of 82 column shafts dating from the time of the Flavians (A.D. 69-96)
onwards, summarizes their dimensions: 43.9 % of them have a length less than or equal
to 20 R. ft, the maximum length found at Punta Scifo, and 56.1% have a length between
22 to 50 R. ft. Columns twice as long as those of the Punta Scifo A cargo were, therefore,
not uncommon in Roman Imperial times (Table 9).
