Confucian ritual music was performed<br />
at Chongmyo, the royal ancestral<br />
shrine of the Choson Kingdom (1392-<br />
1910), with the utmost fidelity and<br />
authenticity by nine governmentdesignated<br />
masters and 316 other<br />
musicians, including members of the<br />
National Classical Music Institute<br />

Two alternating programs of military<br />
band music, the pansori, narrative<br />

• Open-Air Korean Folklore Festival<br />
(Seoul Nori Madang, September<br />
15-October 5)<br />
A colorful program of Korean traditional<br />
folk arts were presented from 5 p.m.<br />
everyday, at the Seoul Nori Madang,<br />
an outdoor stage for folk arts performances.<br />
• Seoul International Folklore Festival<br />
(September 10-18)<br />
Folk dance troupes from 12 countries<br />
performed in Seoul, Wonju, Kwangju,<br />
Pusan, Suwon, Chonju, Taegu,<br />
Inchon, Taejon and Uijongbu. The 12<br />
troupes were from Korea, U.S., Japan,<br />
Senegal, Poland, New Zealand,<br />
France, Turkey, Tunisia, Peru, Italy and<br />
Indonesia. They also attended the<br />
Opening Ceremony of the Games.<br />
Motion pictures festivals<br />
Twenty-seven prize-winning films from<br />
20 countries were shown during the<br />
Seoul International Film Festival,<br />
which was held from September 15<br />
through October 2 at the Sejong<br />
Cultural Center and the Hyundai To Art<br />
Hall. Eight films came from Eastern<br />
European countries including the<br />
U.S.S.R.<br />
Twelve outstanding Korean feature<br />
films were shown during the Korean<br />
Film Week, which was held from<br />
September 12 to 23 at the Taehan<br />
Theater. The festivals presented the<br />
