Traditional Korean handicraft objects<br />

including furniture, lacquerware<br />

decorated with mother-of-pearl<br />

designs, equipment for folk games,<br />

white procelain vessels, punchong<br />

ware, and the decorative patterns for<br />

traditional wooden architecture(tanchong)<br />

were displayed. Some artists<br />

were present to demonstrate their<br />

skills for vistors, who totalled 43,935.<br />

• Photographic Images of Korea<br />

(Olympic Stadium Exhibition Deck,<br />

September 17-October 30)<br />

A collection of 140 photographs of<br />

Korean folk customs, traditional life<br />

and nature taken by 102 Korean<br />

photographers were on display, along<br />

with outstanding entries to the 1987<br />

45<br />

and 1988 Korea Photography Exhibitions.<br />

A total of 9,600 persons visited<br />

the exhibition.<br />

• Picturesque Views of Seoul (Olympic<br />

Stadium Exhibition Deck, September<br />

15-October 15)<br />

The history, scenery and culture of<br />

Seoul were displayed in this<br />

photographic exhibition. Visitors<br />

totalled 28,030.<br />

exhibitions<br />

• World Children's Art Exhibition<br />

(Korea Exhibition Center, September<br />

5-October 2)<br />

More than 17,000 children of 73 countries<br />

submitted their paintings to the<br />

exhibition in response to IOC invitations.<br />

The exhibition included 300 prizewinning<br />

works from previous years and<br />

as many others recommended by the<br />

IOC. "Swimming" by Kim Hyo-shik,<br />

12, of Korea, and "Javelin Throwing"<br />

by Axel Arnasson, 8, of Iceland,<br />

shared the top award.<br />

• Sports Through Artists' Eyes (Korea<br />

Exhibition Center, September 5-October<br />

2)<br />

Eighty Korean paintings, Western paintings,<br />

sculptures and prints were<br />

selected from among 263 entries on<br />

sports themes. Chong An-su won the<br />

grand prize for his "Player VII."<br />

• Olymphilex '88 (Korea Exhibition<br />

Center, September 19-28)<br />

Some 300,000 sports-related postage<br />

stamps issued in 140 countries were<br />

displayed. Renowned stamp dealers of<br />

30 countries operated 54 sales and<br />

exchange booths to serve philatelists<br />

from around the world.
