19. Olympic Village<br />
Buddhist Hall<br />
Buddhist rites were organized by the<br />
Council of Korea Buddist Sects on the<br />
third floor of the Oryun Girls' Junior<br />
High School. The hall (331 square<br />
meters) was open for 34 days from<br />
September 2 to October 5, and more<br />
than 250 Buddhists from around the<br />
world attended the hall opening rite,<br />
officiated by Master Hyobong who had<br />
returned from the United States. The<br />
Buddhist Hall, like other prayer halls,<br />
was divided according to language —<br />
Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. A<br />
total of 2,095 people visited the hall.<br />
Islamic Hall<br />
The Islamic Hall was set up on a<br />
space of 198 square meters on the<br />
fourth floor of the Oryun Girls' Junior<br />
High School inside the Olympic Village,<br />
with the Korea Muslim Federation in<br />
charge. The Islamic Hall was open 24<br />
hours a day from September 1 to 25<br />
October 5 so that people could come<br />
in for prayer at any time. The hall was<br />
visited by 348 Islamic worshippers.<br />
Greek Orthodox Chapel: The Greek<br />
Orthodox Chapel was set up on a<br />
space of 66 square meters on the first<br />
floor of Oryun Girls' Junior High<br />
School, and the rites were staged by<br />
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. The<br />
chapel opening ceremony on<br />
September 1 was attended by more<br />
than 60 bishops, priests and nuns<br />
from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church for<br />
the Lords Supper and Holy Water<br />
ceremony. The chapel was visited by<br />
129 worshippers.<br />
Jewish Chapel<br />

The Jewish Chapel opened<br />
September 1 on a space of 66 square<br />
meters on the Oryun Girls' Junior High<br />
School first floor. It stayed open 35<br />
days until October 5, and two<br />
members of the chapel stayed 24<br />
hours a day with the US Eighth Army<br />
Jewish Chapel organizing the<br />
services.<br />
The delegation from Israel visited the<br />
chapel on October 11 when the New<br />
Year Day fell by Jewish calendar. A<br />
total of 50 people visited the chapel<br />
during the Games.<br />
