erythrocytes by the Anaplasma, but loss of red<br />

blood cells was closely correlated to the level of<br />

infection in severely anemic animals (Jones et<br />

al., 1968). Removal of erythrocytes was due to<br />

in part to autoimmune antibodies bound to<br />

erythrocytes (Schroeder and Ristic, 1965 a).<br />
