approach. Risk factors for psychological distress, including the nature <strong>and</strong><br />

severity of the disaster, the vulnerability of the client before <strong>and</strong> during the<br />

disaster, threat to life, previous history of psychological disturbances, past<br />

treatment efficacy, <strong>and</strong> current access to mental health services are all considerations.<br />

The elements of the treatment plan that are developed from<br />

the assessment are discussed in the next chapter.<br />
