Capt. Brocklebank wrote from Marlborough to Gen. Denison,<br />

March 26, 1676, ask<strong>in</strong>g that he and his company may be relieved<br />

to go home, giv<strong>in</strong>g his reason that <strong>the</strong>y had been <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country's<br />

service " s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> first <strong>of</strong> January at Narraganset, and with<strong>in</strong> one<br />

week after <strong>the</strong>ir returne were sent out aga<strong>in</strong>, hav<strong>in</strong>g nei<strong>the</strong>r time<br />

nor money (save a fortnight's pay upon <strong>the</strong> march) to recruite<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves."' Fortunately <strong>the</strong> Journal conta<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> credits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<br />

men, seven <strong>of</strong> whom were paid by Capt. Brocklebank, £00 12 00,
