The o<strong>the</strong>r equipments <strong>of</strong> a foot soldier were a " Snapsack," six feet<br />

<strong>of</strong> match or fuse, a Bandoleer, which was a lea<strong>the</strong>rn belt pass<strong>in</strong>g<br />

over <strong>the</strong> right shoulder and under <strong>the</strong> left arm, and conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a<br />

dozen or more round boxes each hold<strong>in</strong>g one charge <strong>of</strong> powder ; a<br />

bag <strong>of</strong> bullets and a horn <strong>of</strong> prim<strong>in</strong>g-powder was also attached to this<br />

belt. The Indians who served our side were not regularly credited,<br />

and so, with few exceptions, <strong>the</strong>ir "debentures" are not found.<br />
