This letter shows that orders had come from <strong>the</strong> Council for all<br />

<strong>the</strong> Indians taken to be sent to Boston. There is no doubt that<br />

very many <strong>of</strong> those sent down considered <strong>the</strong>mselves, and were<br />

considered by <strong>the</strong> above committee, as hav<strong>in</strong>g accepted and fulfilled<br />

<strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> peace agreed upon <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> treaty with Major Walderne<br />

<strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter before. The Pennacooks and <strong>the</strong> TYamesits were <strong>the</strong> only<br />

tribes mentioned as <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> treaty, south <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Merrimack.<br />

It is evident that some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> " Pray<strong>in</strong>g " Indians were sent down<br />

also, as we f<strong>in</strong>d Mr. Eliot and Major Gook<strong>in</strong> at once advocat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir cause and <strong>the</strong> claims <strong>of</strong> those who had accepted <strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> treaty and supposed it covered and condoned past <strong>of</strong>fences.<br />

A good view <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> condition <strong>of</strong> affairs at this Eastern part, where<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>war</strong> was now be<strong>in</strong>g waged, is ga<strong>in</strong>ed from this letter from <strong>the</strong><br />

chief citizens <strong>of</strong> " Northfolk and Yorkshire " Counties.<br />
