understood was y e Enimie kill<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>f Cattle. Some after <strong>the</strong>y gave a<br />

shout & Came <strong>in</strong> sight upon y e Indian hill great Numbers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m & one as<br />

<strong>the</strong>ire accustomed maner is after a fight, began to signifie to us how many<br />

were sla<strong>in</strong>e. They Cohoop'd seventy-four times, which we hoped was only<br />

Leftenant Jacob, yesterday upon <strong>the</strong> Councils hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> sad <strong>in</strong>telegeuce<br />

<strong>of</strong> y or Capt. & Capt. Wadsworths death ordered your tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> charge <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> souldgers at Malborough s<strong>in</strong>ce w ch I received your <strong>of</strong> 22 Apr. giv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>telegence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemyes <strong>in</strong>fest<strong>in</strong>g y or quarters & apearance <strong>in</strong> a buddy <strong>of</strong><br />

at least 500 & <strong>the</strong>se wast<strong>in</strong>g by fyers what <strong>the</strong>y can come at so driv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

cattle, yesterday was ordered eighty troopers to advance to observe <strong>the</strong><br />

motions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy y or twoe souldgers returne w th a p ty <strong>of</strong> horse to Sudbery<br />

& so with <strong>the</strong>se to you I desyer your vigilance & care for <strong>the</strong> preserv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

your men & what is under your charge & you shal have ffur<strong>the</strong>r orders so<br />

soone as <strong>the</strong> Councell meete, desyr<strong>in</strong>g Gods presence with and assistance<br />
