These are to certifiy your worships that Cap 1 . Gorum<br />

with myselfe& our<br />

Souhliers <strong>of</strong> both Company 8 are <strong>in</strong> good health at pres" through mercy ;<br />

And to give your honer an account <strong>of</strong> our seaverell marches ; first we<br />

Came to Mendum one <strong>the</strong> 25 tt day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> weeke at nightt be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>: 24 th <strong>of</strong><br />

September and one <strong>the</strong> 25 th day we marched from Mendum unto Hassan emisett<br />

hop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>re to have had an Indian for our guide; butt <strong>the</strong> Indians<br />

were all gone from <strong>the</strong>nce ; and were <strong>the</strong>reby disapoynted <strong>of</strong> our expectation<br />

& one <strong>the</strong> next day we marched unto Packachoug where we found a feild<br />

<strong>of</strong> good corn and well fenced : which<br />

we did th<strong>in</strong>k convenient not to destroy<br />

Conclud<strong>in</strong>g that for ought we Knew Sum <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> neeriest <strong>of</strong> our Inhabitance<br />

would be will<strong>in</strong>g to save itt; butt we could not fiude any Indians nei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>the</strong> signe <strong>of</strong> any be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>re <strong>of</strong> late and we marched from <strong>the</strong>nce unto<br />

Manchoag and Chobanamagungamung where we found sum cornfeilds and<br />

sum wigwams, which Corn and wigwams we burnt and destroyed butt (we<br />

did not) f<strong>in</strong>de any <strong>of</strong> our enimies which was a greate discouragement to us,<br />

hav<strong>in</strong>g taken soe much paynes to f<strong>in</strong>de <strong>the</strong>m; <strong>the</strong>n we Returned and<br />

marched to an Indian Plantation called Shockebogue where we Could not<br />

f<strong>in</strong>de any Indians butt found a Considerable quantity <strong>of</strong> Good Come which<br />

we did not destroy butt Reserved itt at <strong>the</strong> Request <strong>of</strong> Sum <strong>of</strong> Mendum<br />

who th<strong>in</strong>ke to fetch itt home for <strong>the</strong>re use; and from <strong>the</strong>nce we Came to<br />

Mendum one <strong>the</strong> 30 th <strong>of</strong> Sept br : now see<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> all our marches we f<strong>in</strong>de noe<br />

Indians verily th<strong>in</strong>ke thatt thay are drawne toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>to greate bodyes<br />

farr Remote from those partes :<br />

If your honers please to send us one any fur<strong>the</strong>r Service I hope we shall<br />

nott be unwill<strong>in</strong>g butt for<strong>war</strong>de to doe our uttermost Indeavours with all<br />

desir<strong>in</strong>g that you would be pleased to add unto our number see<strong>in</strong>g that<br />

besides <strong>the</strong> Garrison men which must be left heere <strong>in</strong> garrison we have butt<br />

30 men besides my Selfe, Capt. Gorum be<strong>in</strong>g now <strong>in</strong> his march to Mounthope<br />

and If we goe fur<strong>the</strong>r we desir thatt we may have a Surgeon and<br />

some o<strong>the</strong>r thatt may be acqua<strong>in</strong>ted with <strong>the</strong> woodes where you Sende us<br />

<strong>the</strong> want <strong>of</strong> w eh hath beene a discouragement to our men: And as for <strong>the</strong><br />

town <strong>of</strong> Mendum I am desired to Commend <strong>the</strong> desolate condition <strong>of</strong> y m<br />

unto you r honers : Severall <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>re Inhabitance be<strong>in</strong>g removed from<br />

<strong>the</strong>m : and<br />

those <strong>in</strong> garrison be<strong>in</strong>g butt poore helps <strong>in</strong> divers respects and<br />

<strong>in</strong> number but 12 men, with <strong>the</strong>ire armes very defecttive.<br />

The plantation is very Remotte & <strong>the</strong>refore soe much <strong>the</strong> more stands <strong>in</strong><br />

neede <strong>of</strong> helpe; itt is very Likely to be a prosperous place if itt please God<br />

to putt an Ishue to <strong>the</strong>s troubles and <strong>the</strong>refore it is <strong>the</strong> more pitty to have itt<br />

deserted by <strong>the</strong>re people: who th<strong>in</strong>k it must be If <strong>the</strong>y have nott sum assistance<br />

<strong>the</strong>y hope: 20: men well fitted with this one Returned mi "lit be<br />
