Brief History says, "We met Capt. Mosely march<strong>in</strong>g from<br />

Providence up after us.") When Capt. Henchman went next day<br />

to Boston for orders, Mosely was left <strong>in</strong> command at Mendon, and<br />

most <strong>of</strong> Henchmen's men were left with him. With<strong>in</strong> a few days<br />

he was ordered to march to Quabaog (Brookfield), where he cont<strong>in</strong>ued<br />

awhile scout<strong>in</strong>g, &c. In a note endors<strong>in</strong>g a bill <strong>of</strong> William<br />

Locke, chirurgeon <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Massachusetts forces <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mount<br />

Hope campaign, Mosely says that after Capt. Henchman went to<br />

Boston, "he took s d Locke <strong>in</strong>to his company, and from Mendon<br />

marched to Malbury and <strong>the</strong>nce to Quaboag." Capt. Lathrop be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

senior <strong>of</strong>ficer, withdrew Locke to his forces ; and I f<strong>in</strong>d a Court<br />

Order (vol. 67, Archives) to Dr. William Hawk<strong>in</strong>s, August 17,<br />

1675, "to jo<strong>in</strong> Mosely at Malbrow."<br />

On August 16th he wrote a letter to <strong>the</strong> Governor, which expla<strong>in</strong>s<br />

his movements, situation, &c.<br />

Horses proseed for Groatton & so to Chensford : accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> order<br />

Major Willard gave me yesterday Att Quoah-bawge ; The day before<br />

I caime from Quoahbaugh—I martched I(n) company with Capt lieeres &<br />

Capt Laytrop to <strong>the</strong> Swap where <strong>the</strong>y left mee & tooke <strong>the</strong>ire martch to<br />

Spr<strong>in</strong>kfilld and a soone as <strong>the</strong>y <strong>war</strong>egon I tooke my martch Into <strong>the</strong> woods<br />

about 8 mills beyond <strong>the</strong> Swape where Capt Huttche<strong>in</strong>son and <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>war</strong>e<br />
