Disruption and delay: The impact of this to other users of the road
network is more likely to occur during the abnormal load movements;
Increased risk of accidents: Any increase in traffic numbers has the
potential to increase the risk of accidents. This risk will be minimised
through the highway improvements and transport management plan
outlined further in this section;
Air pollution: Emissions from vehicles have the potential to impact on
local and wider air quality. The distribution of traffic movements
throughout the working day will minimise any local air quality impacts
associated with congestion, as will other transport management actions
implemented. The temporary nature of the traffic increases will mean
that any impact will be short-term; and
Dust and dirt: HGVs can potentially cause dust and dirt from the site
to be carried onto the local road network.
11.47 These impacts would not be significant and would be managed principally
via an appropriate transport management plan (see section on Mitigation).
Abnormal Loads
11.48 As shown by Table 11.3, the numbers of abnormal loads will be relatively
small in comparison to the existing levels of traffic on the local road
network, and therefore insignificant in terms of the thresholds of
significance. However, the impact of these vehicles is a result of their size
and low speed rather than their numbers.
11.49 As a result of their size and low speed, these vehicles have the potential to
create the following environmental impacts, which are regarded as being
potentially significant and will be minimised by the mitigation measures
outlined later in the Mitigation section:
Noise and vibration;
Disruption and delay; and
Increased risk of accidents.
OPERATIONAL PHASE
Trip Generation
11.50 Maintenance of the site will take place on a year-round basis. The
servicing of the site can be broken down into the following movements
each year:
Turbine Servicing – Two visits per year for each turbine. It is expected
that servicing vehicles will consist of two car/van vehicles and one
access platform vehicle for two days for each service.
