Extended Servicing – One visit per year for each turbine. It is expected
that servicing vehicles will consist of two car/van vehicles and one
access platform vehicle for four days for each service.
Access Track Maintenance – Two visits per year. It is expected that
the visits will last for approximately 5 days, with each service being
generating two car/van trips per day and one HGV trip per service.
Additional Five-yearly Maintenance Servicing – Undertaken over two
days once every five years for each turbine. It is expected that
servicing vehicles will consist of two car/van trips per day, and one
access platform vehicle.
Additional Contingency Maintenance – While the servicing schedule
above should cover all the required maintenance, allowance is made
for an additional two-day service per turbine.
11.51 Overall, the maximum annual servicing vehicle traffic would be
approximately 190 cars/light vehicles and approximately 35 access
platform vehicles/HGVs.
11.52 The design life of the turbines is 25 years, and the warranted reliability of
wind turbines is approximately 95%. Therefore, it is considered unlikely
that failure of any turbine will require its removal and replacement.
DECOMMISSIONING
Trip Generation
11.53 Traffic generated during decommissioning of the wind farm is likely to be
lower than the levels associated with construction and is therefore not
expected to be significant. An appropriate decommissioning traffic
assessment would be undertaken and a transport management plan
prepared prior to the decommissioning of the wind farm.

VISUAL DISTRACTION (DRIVER DISTRACTION) SUMMARY
11.54 A driver distraction study is not required for a Transport Assessment.
However, an assessment of driver distraction has been undertaken as a
result of consultation with the Highways Agency and has been included in
this construction traffic assessment.
11.55 Visual distraction is where the presence of something close to the highway
attracts the attention of drivers, leading to a potential safety issue. In order
to maintain the safety of the strategic highway network, the Highways
Agency is particularly careful to manage visual distraction given the high
speeds involved.
