Protected location<br />

1. A storage location which cannot be accessed in a certain<br />

context. For example, a write-protected location cannot be<br />

written into.<br />

2. A storage location reserved for special purposes in which<br />

data cannot be stored without undergoing a screening<br />

procedure to establish suitability for storage therein.<br />

Protection address<br />

The maximum relative address that the user can reference.<br />

Protection code<br />

Each file has a protection code that indicates who mayor may not<br />

access the file, in the form , where 0 is an octal digit<br />

representing accessability to the owner of the file, p is the<br />

digit for members of the same project (possessing the same<br />

project number in their PPN), and a is the digit for all other<br />

users. Each octal digit represents the level of access allowed<br />

to the appropriate type of user, from 0, allowing any type of<br />

access, to 7, allowing no access to other users. Note that the<br />

owner can always change the protection code associated with the<br />

file.<br />
