1. EPHESIANS 4:8-10 IN CONTEXT<br />

This pericope at first sight stands as<br />

an integral part of the larger section 4:1-16 which<br />

deals with the question of the unity of the Church<br />

in the light of the apparent diversities that exist<br />

within the Church.<br />

But there are good reasons for<br />

considering 4:8-10 as a separate entity, having both<br />

a definite beginning and end.<br />

mention of 'gift' in v. 7 leads the author to cite<br />

a version of Ps 67:19 in v. 8 which he then feels it<br />

necessary to comment upon in vv. 9f.<br />
