4.5 Summary<br />

In Ephesians there is a twofold headship<br />

of Christ.<br />

He is at one and the same time head of<br />

the world and head of the Church.<br />

The fact that<br />

Christ is head of the world means that all powers are<br />

subject ultimately to him;<br />

there is no reference to<br />

any further interaction between him and them.<br />

The<br />

enthroneme~t<br />

of Christ at which he inherits the title<br />

must mean that all is now subject to him.<br />

On the other hand, the fact that Christ is head of<br />

the Church means something quite different.<br />

No<br />

longer is the relationship one of authority and submission;<br />

it is one of unity and love. As head of the<br />

Church Christ is by right its sovereign but he is<br />

more.<br />
