The east side has several window air conditioner
units, as well as two exterior units located outside
the first floor entrance.
Within the tunnel, at the west portal, is a pair of
wrought iron gates dedicated in 1916. A round
metal bollard is at the center of the east portal,
preventing vehicular access through the tunnel.
Interior

Wood
Other than windows and doors, the only wood
elements on the building include the wood cornices
and partial gable returns. These are generally
in good condition. Small areas of cracking paint
should be monitored and repaired.
Other Features
The interior of South Hall has been renovated. The
first floor has been modernized with new carpet,
wallboard, and dropped ceilings. On the second
and third floors, original painted hardwood strip
flooring, wood beadboard wainscoting, wood door
trim, transoms, some original wood doors and their
hardware, ceilings, scored plaster walls, and stairs
are extant. Bathrooms have been modernized, and
some replacement doors have been installed. Walls
and floors on these levels are showing some paint
failure, and walls and ceilings exhibit some plaster
The building has a large historic wall-mounted
lantern light above the north door inside the
tunnel. A pendant lantern hangs at the east portal
of the tunnel. The foundation on the north side has
several Gothic Revival-patterned vent grilles.
