afraid of <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong>, <strong>and</strong> when <strong>the</strong>y heard that<br />

this strange young brave returned such a mes<br />

sage, <strong>the</strong>y said to one ano<strong>the</strong>r:<br />

&quot;This must be some <strong>great</strong> brave! He must<br />

be even <strong>great</strong>er than <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong>, because he is<br />

not afraid.&quot; And <strong>the</strong>y went to <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong>, <strong>and</strong><br />

told him that some powerful brave was in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

village. This time <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong> sent a very polite<br />

message. He said:<br />

&quot;Will <strong>the</strong> young brave do me such <strong>great</strong><br />

honour as to visit my lodge!&quot;<br />

Then Noojekesigunodasit visited <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong>,<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong> told him after a while that he<br />

might marry his oldest daughter.<br />

&quot;But <strong>the</strong>re is one little favour I would ask<br />

of you,&quot;<br />

he said. &quot;It is just a little thing,<br />

just to remove a troublesome object a small<br />

nuisance. It hinders me from seeing <strong>the</strong> sun<br />

rise in <strong>the</strong> morning.<br />

&quot;And what is that!&quot;<br />

asked.<br />

&quot;Oh, it is only a small nuisance,&quot; <strong>the</strong> <strong>chief</strong><br />
