AFTER Usitabulajoo and his sister had left
their old home they travelled until they
came to a great forest beside the ocean. Here
they built a large lodge, and thought they
would be very happy. Usitabulajoo would go
into the forest and drive herds of moose and
caribou into an enclosure near the wigwam,
where he prepared them for his sister to make
into flakes of meat. All went well for a time
but enemies were near, all unknown to the
brother and sister.
On the other side of the forest was a large
Indian village. The young braves of the vil
lage soon discovered that the wild animals were
being lured away by someone with magical
power, who must be captured, or there would
be a famine in their village. So they started
out in search of the strange hunter; and soon
they came upon the lonely lodge of Usitabula
joo. They entered the wigwam, planning to
kill him; but Usitabulajoo received them so
kindly and entertained them so royally, that
