&quot;Tell him that I will always hunt for him as<br />

I do now ;<br />

but for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs I will hunt animals<br />

<strong>and</strong> fish.&quot;<br />

So that night, when <strong>the</strong> giant came home,<br />

<strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r told him about <strong>the</strong> beautiful<br />

maiden.<br />

&quot;He must not bring her here. He cannot<br />

have her for his wife, stormed <strong>the</strong> old giant.<br />

But after <strong>the</strong> wife had told him how much<br />

<strong>the</strong> son wished to marry <strong>the</strong> beautiful maiden,<br />

<strong>the</strong> giant said, &quot;Well, tell him that he may<br />

marry her; but he must build a stone wigwam<br />

far away from here, <strong>and</strong> never bring her near<br />

me.&quot;<br />

When <strong>the</strong> son heard what his fa<strong>the</strong>r had said,<br />

he hastened away to <strong>the</strong> home of <strong>the</strong> maiden,<br />

<strong>and</strong> she became his wife. He took her home,<br />

<strong>and</strong> he <strong>and</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>r hid her safely from <strong>the</strong><br />

old giant, until <strong>the</strong>y could build a lodge.<br />

When <strong>the</strong> lodge was ready, <strong>the</strong> two went<br />

<strong>the</strong>re to live ;<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> young brave hung in one<br />

corner of <strong>the</strong> wigwam a small bag made of<br />

skins.<br />

&quot;Now mind,&quot; he said to his wife,<br />

&quot;that you<br />

do not touch this bag; for, if you do, <strong>great</strong><br />

harm will <strong>com</strong>e to you.&quot;<br />

And <strong>the</strong> wife said<br />

that she would remember.<br />

The years went by, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> young hunter<br />

kept his promise to <strong>the</strong> old people in <strong>the</strong> far<br />

away forest. They were never in want of
