now; he did not know that he was <strong>the</strong>re. Kit<br />

pooseagunow quickly caught up <strong>the</strong> giant,<br />

<strong>and</strong> bent him back over his knee. The<br />

sorcerer had been seized so suddenly that he<br />

his magical power to his aid. His back was<br />

broken, <strong>and</strong> Kitpooseagunow threw him out of<br />

<strong>the</strong> wigwam dead. But from that day <strong>the</strong><br />

race of frogs has <strong>the</strong> crumpled back that Kit<br />

pooseagunow gave <strong>the</strong>m when he killed <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>great</strong> <strong>chief</strong>, Ablegemoo.<br />

Now as soon as <strong>the</strong> wicked <strong>chief</strong> was dead,<br />

Kitpooseagunow opened all <strong>the</strong> <strong>great</strong> bark<br />

dishes that held <strong>the</strong> water. Instantly <strong>the</strong> water<br />

rushed out, <strong>and</strong> filled <strong>the</strong> rivers <strong>and</strong> lakes, <strong>and</strong><br />

streams; <strong>and</strong> soon <strong>the</strong> country about needed<br />

water no longer. And never from that day<br />

was <strong>the</strong> water taken from <strong>the</strong>m again; for <strong>the</strong><br />

wicked old sorcerer Ablegemoo was dead.<br />

Kitpooseagunow returned to <strong>the</strong> lodge of <strong>the</strong><br />

old woman.
