could make himself invisible to every one but<br />

his sister. And he knew that when <strong>the</strong>re<br />

should be an Indian maiden who had <strong>the</strong> power<br />

to see him when he was invisible to o<strong>the</strong>r peo<br />

ple, she would be <strong>the</strong> one meant for his wife.<br />

So he sent out word that whatever maiden<br />

should see him, her would he marry.<br />

Team was brave <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>some; he had <strong>the</strong><br />

finest lodge in <strong>the</strong> village he<br />

; caught more game<br />

than any of <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Indians; so of course,<br />

every maiden longed to see him, <strong>and</strong> to be <strong>the</strong><br />

fortunate one.<br />

They visited his lodge, sometimes going<br />

alone <strong>and</strong> sometimes in twos or threes.<br />

Team s sister would entertain <strong>the</strong>m kindly,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n toward sunset she would take <strong>the</strong>m to <strong>the</strong><br />

shore of <strong>the</strong> lake. When <strong>the</strong> sound of Team s<br />

paddle could be heard, <strong>the</strong> sister would ask :<br />

&quot;Do you see my bro<strong>the</strong>r?&quot; The girls would<br />

strain <strong>the</strong>ir eyes in <strong>the</strong> direction of <strong>the</strong> sound,<br />

but <strong>the</strong>y could never see Team. Sometimes<br />

one would think that she could make believe see<br />

him, <strong>and</strong> that <strong>the</strong>y would not find out; so she<br />

would answer:<br />

&quot;Yes,<br />

I see him.&quot; Then <strong>the</strong> sister would<br />

ask:<br />

&quot;Of what is his shoulder strap made?&quot;<br />

Now <strong>the</strong>re were only two things <strong>the</strong> Indians<br />

used for shoulder straps. Usually <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

made of raw-hide, but sometimes <strong>the</strong>y used a
