<strong>the</strong> child s fa<strong>the</strong>r fell to <strong>the</strong> ground. He<br />

knew what had happened. The little bag had<br />

been harmed. It was a magical bag, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

brave took his life from it. If all of <strong>the</strong> oil<br />

should drop out of <strong>the</strong> little<br />

bag, he would die<br />

alone in <strong>the</strong> forest. He must try to reach<br />

home!<br />

So he turned towards home, but he grew<br />

weaker <strong>and</strong> weaker, <strong>and</strong> he knew that <strong>the</strong> oil<br />

was dripping, dripping, from <strong>the</strong> little bag in<br />

<strong>the</strong> corner. He went along, stumbling at every<br />

step, until at last, he came within sight of <strong>the</strong><br />

wigwam; <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n, nearer <strong>and</strong> nearer until<br />

he reached <strong>the</strong> doorway. He drew aside <strong>the</strong><br />

skins, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re he saw his wife trying to keep<br />

<strong>the</strong> oil from dropping out of <strong>the</strong> bag.<br />

&quot;Ah! You did not keep your promise to<br />

me,&quot;<br />

he said. &quot;Now <strong>great</strong> harm will fall upon<br />

you.&quot;<br />

He took <strong>the</strong> little bag <strong>and</strong> made it whole<br />

again, for he alone could do that. And <strong>the</strong>n<br />

he went back into <strong>the</strong> distant forest again, leav<br />

ing his wife to her fate.<br />

Soon she heard a <strong>great</strong> noise outside. She<br />

looked <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re, <strong>com</strong>ing to <strong>the</strong> wigwam, draw<br />

ing a sled after him, was a terrible giant!<br />

She knew at once that this was her fa<strong>the</strong>r-inlaw.<br />

The cruel, fierce giant came into <strong>the</strong> wigwam,<br />

<strong>and</strong> seized her, <strong>and</strong> took her away on <strong>the</strong> big
