All <strong>the</strong> time <strong>the</strong> young brave was watching<br />

for an opportunity to use <strong>the</strong> magical hairstring.<br />

And, at last, when no one was look<br />

ing, he contrived to throw it upon <strong>the</strong> back of<br />

one of <strong>the</strong> maidens. He said nothing to her,<br />

<strong>and</strong> soon after this <strong>the</strong> young braves went<br />

away.<br />

The next day <strong>the</strong> Indian was walking alone<br />

in <strong>the</strong> forest, <strong>and</strong> he saw, <strong>com</strong>ing toward him,<br />

<strong>the</strong> maiden whom he had charmed with <strong>the</strong><br />

magical hair-string.<br />

&quot;Where are you going?&quot; she asked shyly.<br />

&quot;I am going hunting,&quot; he said. &quot;But<br />

whence have you <strong>com</strong>e? And what are you<br />

doing out here all alone? Are you lost?&quot;<br />

&quot;Oh,<br />

no! I am not lost,&quot; she replied.<br />

&quot;You had better go back to your wigwam,&quot;<br />

he said, &quot;<strong>and</strong> I will go with you, <strong>and</strong> tell your<br />

parents that I found you w<strong>and</strong>ering in <strong>the</strong><br />

woods, not knowing <strong>the</strong> way<br />

When home.&quot;<br />

<strong>the</strong>y reached <strong>the</strong> wigwam, <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

of <strong>the</strong> beautiful maiden said :<br />

&quot;Would you like to have my daughter for<br />

your wife?&quot;<br />

&quot;I<br />

would,&quot; he answered,<br />

&quot;for I am tired of<br />

living alone.&quot;<br />

And so <strong>the</strong>y were married. The magical<br />

hair-string had won <strong>the</strong> beautiful maiden for<br />

<strong>the</strong> awkward, blundering young brave.<br />

And kespeadooksit <strong>the</strong> story ends.
