creature, with long ears <strong>and</strong> long legs <strong>and</strong> a<br />

So Keoonik stayed, <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> midst of <strong>the</strong><br />

feasting <strong>and</strong> gaiety suddenly someone struck<br />

him on <strong>the</strong> head, from behind, <strong>and</strong> Keoonik fell<br />

over unconscious ! When he opened his eyes<br />

<strong>the</strong>re was no feast before him; <strong>the</strong>re were<br />

no Indians all was quiet. There was no In<br />

dian village all Keoonik could see was <strong>the</strong><br />

tracks of a rabbit in <strong>the</strong> s<strong>and</strong>.<br />

Then Keoonik knew that he had been out<br />

witted a second time by Ableegumooch, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

his anger, he vowed that he would kill <strong>the</strong> first<br />

Indian he met.<br />

Away he went, determined not to be cheated<br />

again. Soon he had gained upon <strong>the</strong> rabbit,<br />

whom he saw enter a swamp <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n disappear<br />

from his sight. Keoonik ran along, entered <strong>the</strong>
