ing carried across <strong>the</strong> sea. She thought of her<br />

By <strong>and</strong> by <strong>the</strong> whale reached <strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong><br />

as soon as he touched <strong>the</strong> shore he was changed<br />

into a man. He took <strong>the</strong> maiden to his lodge,<br />

where his fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>and</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>and</strong> sister lived.<br />

They were kind to her, <strong>and</strong> soon she consented<br />

to remain <strong>the</strong>re as Bootup s wife, <strong>and</strong> she was<br />

called Bootupskw (Mrs. Bootup).<br />

Now if it had not been for <strong>the</strong> thought of her<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>r waiting for her to free him, she would<br />

have been happy; for as time passed she had a<br />

baby boy to care for. But whenever she was<br />

alone she sorrowed for Usitabulajoo.<br />

One day Bootupskw s sister-in-law found her<br />

weeping.<br />

&quot;Why are you mourning so when you are<br />

alone?&quot;<br />

she asked.<br />
