They soon had <strong>the</strong> hide of <strong>the</strong> bear made into<br />

a beautiful white rug, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> meat dried in thin<br />

slices.<br />

All this time <strong>the</strong> Indians were settled in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

new encampment. They had made a three<br />

days journey, <strong>and</strong> at length had reached a<br />

pleasant spot in a <strong>great</strong> forest by <strong>the</strong> ocean.<br />

They encamped <strong>the</strong>re because <strong>the</strong> place was be<br />

side <strong>the</strong> water, where <strong>the</strong>y could fish, <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>great</strong> forest, where <strong>the</strong>y could hunt. But <strong>the</strong>y<br />

could never catch any fish or game, because<br />
