After <strong>the</strong> feast was ended, Kitpooseagunow<br />

<strong>and</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r, to <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>great</strong> astonishment,<br />

did not die ; <strong>the</strong>y continued on <strong>the</strong>ir journey as<br />

well as ever.<br />

And it came to pass that <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>rs entered<br />

<strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong> of Bed Squirrels. The Indians here<br />

were under <strong>the</strong> rule of <strong>Glooscap</strong>, <strong>and</strong> so <strong>the</strong>y<br />

were glad to entertain <strong>the</strong> travellers, who were<br />

seeking <strong>the</strong>ir Great Chief. After <strong>the</strong> feast,<br />

where all had met as friends, <strong>the</strong> two bro<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

entered <strong>the</strong>ir canoe again, <strong>and</strong> set out for <strong>the</strong><br />

home of <strong>Glooscap</strong>. They had no more enemies<br />

to conquer now, for <strong>the</strong>y were near <strong>the</strong> Mas<br />

ter.<br />

The bro<strong>the</strong>rs journeyed on, <strong>and</strong> at last en<br />

tered a body of water that swept far about a<br />

high point of l<strong>and</strong> covered with giant trees.<br />

There were <strong>great</strong>, red cliffs leading up out<br />

of <strong>the</strong> water to <strong>the</strong> point of l<strong>and</strong> far above,<br />

where <strong>Glooscap</strong> dwelt. Kitpooseagunow, point<br />

ing to <strong>the</strong> place high above <strong>the</strong>m, said:<br />

There dwells <strong>the</strong> one I seek.<br />

There dwells<br />

<strong>the</strong> Great Chief, who will direct me in my<br />

work.<br />

Kitpooseagunow l<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> canoe where <strong>the</strong><br />

red bank was lowest, <strong>the</strong> two bro<strong>the</strong>rs climbed<br />

<strong>the</strong> steep cliff, <strong>and</strong>, at last, reached <strong>the</strong> forest<br />

above. Kitpooseagunow stood in <strong>the</strong> high
