they felt their weakness beside his strength, and
left without trying to do him any harm.
But their moose and caribou still continued
to be lured away, and soon they called a council
to decide what should be done. At the council
there was an old man who was himself pos
sessed of a little magical power.
"You cannot kill this Indian brave, he said,
"for he has magical power. He is a Boooin.
All you can do is to pit magic against magic.
But follow closely my instructions and you will
soon have him in your power. First, secure a
dragon s horn; it has magical power. If you
can succeed in placing this in his hair, it
will fasten itself so securely that it cannot be
taken out ;
and at once it will grow up and graft
itself upon a tree. In this way your enemy
will be made fast. So let each one of you take
a horn for himself; then while you are eating,
take them out and put them on after that, of
fer the Boooin the magical horn. If he does
not suspect you, he will at once put it on
and then you will never more be disturbed by
him."
Soon after this, six young Indian braves
started out for the lodge of Usitabulajoo, with
the horns concealed under their garments.
