<strong>the</strong> bag. Then he put <strong>the</strong> bag back into <strong>the</strong><br />

hole, <strong>and</strong> drove <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r pigs away to <strong>the</strong> field<br />

of chickweed, where <strong>the</strong>y were kept busy until<br />

<strong>the</strong> tide returned <strong>and</strong> covered <strong>the</strong> spot where<br />

Coolnajoo had been buried.<br />

When <strong>the</strong> tide had gone out again, Coolnajoo s<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>rs began to feel sorry for what <strong>the</strong>y had<br />

done to him. They went to <strong>the</strong> spot where <strong>the</strong>y<br />

had buried him, of course expecting to find him<br />

dead. What was <strong>the</strong>ir surprise, on opening <strong>the</strong><br />

bag, to find, instead of <strong>the</strong>ir bro<strong>the</strong>r a dead<br />

pig!<br />

Coolnajoo had been watching <strong>the</strong>m from a dis<br />

tance, <strong>and</strong> when <strong>the</strong>y reached home <strong>the</strong>y found<br />

him astride <strong>the</strong> ridge-pole, laughing at <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

After this Coolnajoo was more clever than<br />

ever, until at last his bro<strong>the</strong>rs could endure him<br />

no longer, <strong>and</strong> planned once more to kill him.<br />

This time <strong>the</strong>y thought <strong>the</strong>y would do better.<br />

&quot;We will take him to <strong>the</strong> water-fall,&quot; <strong>the</strong>y<br />

said, <strong>and</strong> throw him in, <strong>and</strong> let him be dashed<br />

to pieces in <strong>the</strong> &quot;<br />

rapids.<br />

So <strong>the</strong>y tied Coolnajoo up in a bag again, <strong>and</strong><br />

hung <strong>the</strong> bag across a pole, <strong>and</strong> started for <strong>the</strong><br />

water-fall. But <strong>the</strong>y became hungry on <strong>the</strong><br />

way, <strong>and</strong> put him down by <strong>the</strong> side of <strong>the</strong> road,<br />

while <strong>the</strong>y went to an inn to eat.<br />

While <strong>the</strong>y were gone, a drover passed by<br />

<strong>and</strong> spying <strong>the</strong> bag, he went up <strong>and</strong> gave it a<br />

kick, to see what might be in it.
