length Usitabulajoo asked <strong>the</strong> sister to stay<br />

<strong>and</strong> be his wife.<br />

&quot;I will be your wife, even if it be for thirty<br />

years,&quot; she replied,<br />

you will keep far from<br />

<strong>the</strong> salt water. But if you ever encamp near<br />

<strong>the</strong> sea, <strong>the</strong>n I am free from my vow, <strong>and</strong> I<br />

Usitabulajoo was quite ready to make this<br />

promise, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y moved away to a strange<br />

country far from <strong>the</strong> ocean. There a baby boy<br />

came to <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> two boys grew up to<br />

ge<strong>the</strong>r very happily.<br />

But <strong>the</strong>re came a time when Usitabulajoo<br />

moved his lodge; <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong>ir journey a <strong>great</strong><br />

storm came upon <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y lost <strong>the</strong>ir way<br />

in <strong>the</strong> darkness. Usitabulajoo built a shelter<br />

where <strong>the</strong>y could rest for <strong>the</strong> night, <strong>and</strong> wait<br />

for <strong>the</strong> storm to pass over.<br />

Early in <strong>the</strong> morning <strong>the</strong> wife awoke <strong>and</strong><br />

thought she would go out <strong>and</strong> see what <strong>the</strong><br />

country about was like. As she stood in <strong>the</strong><br />

doorway of <strong>the</strong> wigwam she saw stretching be<br />

fore her <strong>the</strong> <strong>great</strong> blue ocean!<br />

At once her love for <strong>the</strong> sea took possession
