some cases, these will be offered on an outpatient basis, while for others, the local
hospital will provide inpatient care to stabilise patients and prevent further
deterioration in their condition. The local hospital may also offer „step down‟ facilities
for patients who have previously been admitted to specialist centres, enabling their
recovery and rehabilitation closer to their families and community.
