Delayed rule triggering
Delayed rule triggering is a mechanism used to initiate alarm actions only when certain
conditions are met for a specified period of time. Suppose you don't want your systems to be
overloaded. To do so, you need to check the CPU-load of the computer. If the CPU-load is too
high, you want to be informed, for instance by E-mail. But how do you specify too high?
In this case, too high means that the value should exceed some reference value for some period
of time. For instance, exceed 90% for at least 5 minutes. To support this with MonitorMagic, you
must configure a performance counter monitor that watches the % Processor Time. This monitor
value should not exceed 90 for over 300 seconds.
In the Rule spec tab, you can do this by selecting the option Rule triggered when criteria met
for ... seconds. Once the rule is triggered, alarm actions will be initiated.
