MonitorMagic WebService Access Rights (per account) MonitorMagic Web Interface license Configure MonitorMagic WebService: Access Rights Access rights are a very important part of the MonitorMagic WebService. You will probably want to limit what machines a user of the web interface has access to, and what they can do on each machine. MonitorMagic provides you with a versatile method for making these specifications. Access rights are specified using the "Access rights" tab of the "Configure MonitorMagic WebService" dialog box, as seen below: MonitorMagic WebService access rights: Specify here the access rights that users of the web interface have to specific machines. This is done by using the configure button. Clicking the configure button will open up a new dialog box titled "WebService access rights per computer." MonitorMagic Web Interface Configure MonitorMagic WebService: Proxy MonitorMagic service If you are running multiple MonitorMagic services, you can use a single MonitorMagic service to provide WebService capabilities for all MonitorMagic services. In this case the MonitorMagic WebService is a proxy service for the other MonitorMagic services not running the MonitorMagic WebService. Example: You have installed and configured the MonitorMagic service and WebService on computer SUMMER. The firewall is configured to allow HTTPS communications on port 449 with the static IP address of the SUMMER server. So from the outside world, SUMMER is accessible and able to communicate over port 449 using HTTPS. Next, you have another server, AUTUMN. This computer is running the MonitorMagic service, but you do not want to enable MonitorMagic WebService on this machine. In order now to use the MonitorMagic WebInterface to access the monitors of the MonitorMagic service on AUTUMN you configure SUMMER to be a MonitorMagic proxy server for computer AUTUMN. To configure the proxy settings, right click the computer that runs the MonitorMagic service and WebService. Select menu option Configure WebService and select tab Proxy. You will be presented the following window: Use the Add and Delete buttons to add and remove computers. These computer must run the MonitorMagic service but do not need to have the WebService enabled. Instead, this MonitorMagic WebService will serve requests from browsers for the listed computer. In the example shown below, two computers are running the MonitorMagic service: SUMMER and AUTUMN. For computer SUMMER, the MonitorMagic WebService is enabled. SUMMER is the proxy server for server AUTUMN. In a browser, connecting to SUMMER, you can see and manage the monitors of server AUTUMN. 335
