The following criteria must be met in order to use SNMP traps with MonitorMagic.
In order for MonitorMagic to be able to send SNMP traps, the Microsoft SNMP service
must be installed and configured on the machine that runs the MonitorMagic service and
issues the trap. The Microsoft SNMP service is a standard service of Windows 2000/NT,
but is not been installed by default. See Installing the SNMP service for more information.
Depending on how you want to use a SNMP Manager application, the SNMP Trap
service must be either started or stopped. See MonitorMagic and SNMP traps for more
information.
The MonitorMagic service must be configured to support sending SNMP traps. See
Configure MonitorMagic SNMP traps for more information.
If your SNMP management application does not receive the trap message, you may want to try
starting or stopping the SNMP Trap Service on the computer that runs your Management
application. It depends on the implementation of your SNMP management software if this service
should be running or not on that computer.

Installing the SNMP service
In order for MonitorMagic to be able to send SNMP traps, the Microsoft SNMP service must be
installed and configured on the machine that runs the MonitorMagic service. This section
descibes hot to install the SNMP service. The installation will automatically install the SNMP
Trap service. The installation is different for Windows NT and Window 2000:
Windows NT:
To install the SNMP service, select the network applet from the control panel, select the
services tab, and click on add. From the list choose the SNMP service. Follow the instructions.
Windows 2000:
