In this chapter we will show you how to make optimal use of variables. In MonitorMagic it is possible to use as many variables as you want within report templates, even within report items you can use more than one variable. This makes the reporting in MonitorMagic very flexible. You can create overviews per computer, per week, per resource, per processor, per error type, per whatever you want. We will explain the use of the multivalue variable with an example. For this example see the predefined template all systems overview per computer in the monthly overview folder in the template tree. For this example we copied and pasted this example to the computers overview folder and adjusted the contents to make the example simpler. In the example we want to create a report in which the disk space of the computers in the network for the months February and March will be presented. To get all the computers in the network we use the variable query %COMPUTER%. The next query will find all the computers for which information is stored in the table MonitorDiskDefinition. 196
Using MonitorMagic In the database the disk information is stored in the tables MonitorDiskData and MonitorDiskDefinitions. The query variable %COMPUTER% is now used in a report item table in which a query is used to get the correct disk information and put it in a table. We will not get into this query in detail, but this query will be repeated for every computer that will be found in the database using the %COMPUTER% variable. 197
