Applying a policy to a computer
A policy contains monitors, rules, and alarm actions. When a policy is applied to a computer, the
monitors are generated and rules and alarm actions become effective. You can apply a policy to
a computer in various manners, by menu selection and by drag-and-drop. You can apply a policy
to a single computer or to multiple computers. As an example, this section described how to apply
a policy to multiple (2) computers.
When you apply a policy you don't need to have a monitor window connecting to the
MonitorMagic service open. Since the monitor window shows all the monitors maintained by the
MonitorMagic service, it is easy to see the effect of the apply policy operation.
First, open a monitor window that connects to the computer that runs the MonitorMagic service. In
the figure shown, the MonitorMagic service does not maintain any monitors, so the monitor
window is blank.
